That is why Parla is among the 50 most populated cities in Spain. In recent years Parla has undergone enormous urban development. The general urban plan of 1997 freed up space for the construction of more than 16,000 homes, the result of the increase in the population of the municipality, especially at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. This has contributed to Parla being one of the municipalities in the Community of Madrid with the most affordable housing prices. As a result, the city has experienced remarkable transformations and the implementation of important projects and infrastructures, an increase in public services and the commitment to a new model of citizen relations, enhanced through a policy of getting closer to the neighbours.
