STARS Project: sustainable, active and independent mobility
New project by Zaragoza at the IAEC Bank of Experiences! [...]
According to the European Environment Agency (2023), atmospheric pollution (both chemical and noise pollution) generated by traffic is the most harmful environmental factor for health in Europe. Additionally, urban spaces are dominated by paved surfaces, which reduces the spaces for socialisation and increases the perceived lack of safety on the streets. This means that the vast majority of children do not walk on their own to school and, in many cases, they come by car.
This is the context for the STARS project (Sustainable Travel Accreditation and Recognition for Schools), a sustainable, active and independent mobility project in Europe intended for primary and secondary school students, which involves the entire educational community and focuses on the use of bicycles as a regular means of transport.
All the STARS schools in the city of Zaragoza form a network, which is growing by year after year, promoting and favouring the exchange of good practices and sharing information about issues and solutions.
