UCLG’s Global Campaign “10, 100, 1000 Human Rights Cities and Territories by 2030”
We echo the second wave of this global campaign by UCLG, which aims at gathering 1,000 Cities and Territories worldwide with a view to build an active community of Local Governments promoting and implementing human rights to ensure dignity for all.
In 2022, six cities – Barcelona, Grigny, Gwangju, Mexico City, Utrecht and Vienna – of the Committee on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights (UCLG-CISDPDH) launched the Global Campaign “10, 100, 1000 Human Rights Cities and Territories by 2030”.
In less than 6 months since its launch, the initiative gathered more than 120 Local and Regional Governments worldwide, whose representatives explicitly committed to human rights.
Cities and Territories are currently leveraging the Campaign to implement local activities on Human Rights; to foster international advocacy on specific themes related to human rights (right to water, violence against women, inclusive citizenship, right to housing etc.);
One year after its launch, at the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we at the IAEC echo the second wave of the campaign, an opportunity to recall the importance of human rights and to strengthen trust and solidarity within the human rights ecosystem through the voice of local governments.
Please find the detailed presentation note of the Global Campaign; as well as the form to join the Campaign, to be filled and sent by 15 November 2023.
