Dakar

© Jeff Attaway (Flickr) The Capital of Senegal, Dakar, is situated on the westernmost point of the African continent, the Cape Verde Peninsula. The geographic situation grants the city port a key role in the sea freight transport routes between Europe, Africa and South America. Dakar is the political, economic and culture centre of the country. The Gorée Island, which witnessed Slavery Trade during three centuries, was declared by UNESCO World Heritage site in 1978. Dakar has 1,001,468 inhabitants and occupies a surface of 547 km2.
