The aim of the Guangzhou Award is to recognize innovation in improving social, economic and environmental sustainability in cities and regions and, in so doing, to advance the prosperity and quality of life of their citizens.

The Award for Urban Innovation is co-sponsored by the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), the World Association of the Major Metropolises (Metropolis) and the City of Guangzhou.

The call is open to all cities and regions worldwide, Each of the five winning cities will be granted $ 20,000 cash prize, a trophy and a commemorative certificate.

Cities and local authorities are encouraged to submit up to three initiatives related to the principles and commitments of the New Urban Agenda and/or to Goal 11 of the Sustainable Development Goals: make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
