Granollers, 2026 Congress venue
Granollers will host the 18th International Congress of Educating Cities in 2026, an event centered around the themes of education and culture, as well as strategies for city/community development and fostering a critical and inclusive citizenship.
The city of Granollers has a long trajectory within the IAEC. It has been a member of the Association since 1994. It is part of the Executive Committee and was the coordinating city of the Spanish Network between 2007-2009. It also hosted the General Assembly of the entity in 2017. Currently, it leads the thematic network of the Spanish Network “Education and Culture: Strategies for building an inclusive city/community for the development of a critical and creative citizenship.”
Granollers is committed to organizing a participatory congress with heart and soul, aimed at defining innovative strategies in the realms of education, culture, and community development. This initiative seeks to contribute to the transformation of our cities into more inclusive, educational, and creative spaces.
The proposed model places special emphasis on promoting the participation of youth and children, featuring a Youth Forum and a Children’s Congress.
The selection of Granollers as the venue for this event was unanimously agreed upon by the Executive Committee after evaluating various factors. These included its longstanding involvement in the movement, the thematic proposal, the commitment of different municipal areas, and the support of the local community for the candidacy, among others.
The International Congress of Educating Cities is held every two years. The upcoming edition is scheduled for May 21st to 24th in Curitiba, Brazil. Previous editions have taken place in various cities, including Andong (Republic of Korea), Cascais (Portugal), Rosario (Argentina), Barcelona (twice), Changwon (Korea), Guadalajara (Mexico), São Paulo (Brazil), Lyon (France), Genoa (Italy), Tampere (Finland), Lisbon (Portugal), Jerusalem (Israel), Chicago (United States), Bologna (Italy), and Gothenburg (Sweden).
