Inclusive art workshops aimed at people with severe mental illnesses
Psychosocial rehabilitation project aimed at people diagnosed with severe mental illnesses, promoted by the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health of the Santarém Hospital (National Health Service), in collaboration with the Municipality of Santarém.
The initiative, in force since 2016, seeks social inclusion and to reduce stigmatisation by way of educational and cultural proposals. The programme is developed through artistic workshops that provide an environment of creativity, exchange and personal growth, while facilitating the acquisition of technical skills in disciplines such as painting, sculpture and drawing.
INclude contributes to promoting cultural diversity, exhibiting the works of art created by the project participants in the town’s cultural spaces, and including visits to the exhibitions taking place in different spaces within the municipality, as well as open-air workshops aimed at the general public, among its activities.
In this way, the project facilitates the participation of this vulnerable population group in the cultural life of the city, strengthening their sense of belonging and enhancing the interaction between the participants and the community.
