The IAEC Delegated-Chairman visits Gamcheon Cultural Village (Saha-gu)
Gamcheon Culture Village, one of the experiences awarded with the Educating Cities Award receives the visit of Mr Miquel Angel Essomba, IAEC Delegated Chairman, on October 23rd
In 2010, the local Government of Saha-gu, in collaboration with urban planners, artists and the residents, had the idea of regenerating the Gamcheon Village, a poor marginalized area, opting for a sustainable development that would respect its unique character and artistic value.
After an urban renewal process of the houses and the neighbourhood’s infrastructure and the installation of more of 40 works of art, the Gamcheon village has transformed into a cultural, dynamic village full of life, which is visited by more than 1 million people each year.
The IAEC Delegated Chairman had the opportunity to visit this neighbourhood, which received the Educating Cities award on best practices on better living together for its process of urban and social regeneration. He walked its labyrinthine streets surrounded by pastel-colored houses, he admired the works of art and he exchanged views with Saha-gu representatives.
