Its 7 km² of hilly surface extends from the river Besós -natural western border with Barcelona- to the Catalan coastal mountain range at the North. Santa Coloma de Gramenet had a demographic boom in the 50s because of massive migration. Nowadays, the city has around 123,000 inhabitants (2012) from more than 100 nationalities and a heavy density of 17,147 hab/km². Thanks to the recovery of the river, the banks of the river Besós are nowadays spaces of citizenship leisure and rest.
