It occupies a surface of 96.3 km² of the Valley of Sousa, a transition geographic zone between the rivers Miño and Douro. The economy of the city is strongly linked to agriculture but other economic sectors are also present such as the textile and food industry and the winemaking industry. Lousada has a young population – on 2011, the 89% of its population had less than 64 years old- what contributes to its economic boost.
